HUNTER RIVER - Wayne Easter, Member of Parliament for Malpeque, wishes to remind businesses and not-for profit organizations of the impending deadline for the 2010 Canada Summer Jobs initiative. The last date for submission of the application is February 26, 2010.
“The Canada Summer Jobs program," Easter stated, "is benefical for both student and employer. I encourage organizations that may be eligible to receive funding to get their applications in before the February 26th deadline."
The Canada Summer Jobs program, formerly known as the Summer Career Placement program, was started in 1996 and has provided local businesses and not-for profits the opportunity to create summer employment for students. The program provides employers with funding to help subsidize a hired student. The funding is given to employers based on various criteria including service to the community, local priorities and the hiring of priority students such as students with disabilities, Aboriginal students, and students who are members of visible minority groups.
"The current federal government tried to scrap the Program a few years ago," Easter explained, "but public dissent was successful in getting the decision reversed. With the financial difficulties businesses, non-profit organizations and students face today, the Canada Summer Jobs program is more important than ever to Prince Edward Island's seasonal economic development."
Guidelines and applications for Canada Summer Jobs can be found at www.servicecanada.gc.ca, and can be submitted online, via mail, fax or in person at the Jean Canfield building in Charlottetown no later then Friday, February 26, 2010. For additional information please call 1-800-926-9105.

The agriculture industry is
a complex and multi-level chain comprising of suppliers,
